I think it’s actually a bit shameful that Apple can’t handle a traffic spike like this. I know the SDK has been hotly anticipated, but c’mon. $18 billion in the bank and they can’t afford a few new servers?

The site is working now, but now there appears to be bug where even if you’re logged in and registered as an iPhone developer, it doesn’t let you view the documentation at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action . If you hit the log in button it sends you to the registration page instead.

OK. That problem has been fixed.

OK. I spoke too soon. That problem is still happening for me most of the time, making it so I can’t download sample code and documentation.
Also I haven’t been able to transfer software to the iPhone. I suspect the problem is that my iPhone isn’t registered. Every time the iPhone software is updated it tries to register itself, but since I’m in Japan it can’t connect to the cellular network.
I suspect I’ll have to buy an iTouch if I want to do any development here.

At one point I remember I had to delete Safari’s saved cookie for connect.apple.com, because it kept redirecting me to a subdomain that wouldn’t resolve.
It sounds like you’ve installed the SDK. All the docs and sample code are already on your local disk, then. Use the Xcode documentation window.
You know you can’t install apps on the iPhone without the magic certificate you get from signing up with the $99 developer program, right? (That program’s only available in the US.) I’m still waiting for acknowledgement from my application … the simulator is fun, but I want to run apps on my actual phone!
